Charade is Heather Ferguson's live interpretation of the Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer classic, recorded at London's Piano Bar Soho for the upcoming EP Jammin' Under Jack. Elegant but urgent, the performance combines the lyricism of the song with the flexibility and edge of a live jazz trio.

Tracked near the end of an intense four-hour jam session with Nathan Britton on piano, Oscar Ho on bass, and Jamie Murray on drums, Charade captures the band at full stretch: alert, adventurous, and deeply responsive. The result is a version that honours the sophistication of the original while giving it a fresh sense of momentum and dramatic tension.

The five-track EP blends original songwriting with reinvented jazz standards, moving from romantic ballads to gospel-infused grooves and hard-driving improvisation. Recorded “old school” with the musicians performing together in one room, the EP reflects Ferguson’s continuing commitment to music as a living, collaborative language. As a single, Charade showcases the more energetic side of Jammin' Under Jack. It is a strong point of entry for listeners drawn to standards, film music, and vocal jazz storytelling with bite.
